MARTIN WALLS: OBITUARY

I am very saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of Prevision Research founder and former Managing Director, Martin Walls.

Martin started his career in research in 1991 at HSBC and went on to be Head of Consumer Research for the bank. He left HSBC to become Qualitative Director of Outlook Research in 2004 and then Account Director of 20/20 Research in 2006.

He founded Prevision Research in 2009, selling his beloved Mercedes to fund the startup. His vision for Prevision was to provide the sort of service he valued when he was working client-side. He wanted to deliver super-fast quotes, high quality data and exceptional customer service – values which still hold true today.

Employees describe Martin as being more of a friend than a boss. He cared passionately for his staff and was always willing to make time to help them. He never forgot little things like buying breakfast on a Friday, lending money to staff to help them fix a car and taking the team to a top London restaurant every year to celebrate Xmas.

I got to know Martin when we purchased the business. He had decided he wanted to retire to spend more time travelling and as a long time client of Prevision, invited Purple Market Research to take over from him. He was a tough negotiator, but also honest and honourable throughout. He was a great lover of Greece and planned to continue Greek lessons in retirement.

Martin retired in 2019, but unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer soon after. After being successfully treated, the cancer returned in 2022, though Martin remained positive in his final months.

Martin is survived by his son, Dec and stepdaughter, Emma.
